Data Mailing an attachment

Hi,

I'm fairly new to using Unix and I was just wondering can someone please tell me the simplest way to mail and attachement using the mail command using Solaris? I have tried using uuencode file name | mail johndoe@ttp.ie but it hasn't worked. I have been mailing the file to myself using mail myself@ttp.ie < file - but when I open the email and view the file all the headers are all over the place! Please help.

elm mailer

If you have elm or can load it, that is a great way to send email attachments. It has a TUI , text-based user interface, that allows for attachments.

I am sure that you can get a distribution of it on the internet.

Thanks for that Kelam_Magnus.

Unfortunately I cannot install anything onto the server as it would never be passed by change control! I have to make do with what I have! I don't think it is possible to send an attachment with just mail as I looked up the web and the man pages and found nothing - unless someone knows different????
