Howto Archive Including Hidden Files?

I want to archive the following all the files and directory like listed below:

[monkfan@defiant ~]$ ls -a
. .. .bash_history .bash_logout .bash_profile .bashrc .emacs .mysql_history public_html .viminfo

What I tried is to use the following command

[monkfan@defiant ~]$ gtar cvzf allmyfiles.tar.gz *

However when I opened that archived files. I couldn't find the hidden
files (those started with ".") like: .bash_history .bash_logout .bash_profile .bashrc .emacs etc.

And I also tried using .* like this:
[monkfan@defiant ~]$ gtar cvzf allmyfiles.tar.gz * .*

But it also include archiving all the directories in home/ which belong to other users, which is not what I want.

How can I issue a gtar command that also include the hidden files and hidden directories solely for my private home directories?
# 2
gtar cvzf allmyfiles.tar.gz .
