how unix called as secure
hi ..
This is sanjeev , new at the world of unix , i want to know why unix/linux is called as secure ? as i am new , please suggest me what os i should use ? i am having laptop of 256 ram .

UNIX can be secure, it all depends how it configured.

The process of making a system more secure is called hardening and basically involves auditing the machine and ensuring all known holes are closed.

However more secure system can be seen as being restrictive by users and they often attempt to thwart computer security, such as using weak passwords, enabling insecure daemons etc.

More recent release have improved in this aspect, for example by not enabling telnet, ftp by default.
