is unix download the complete OS
Hello people,

Can anyone tell me if the download from sun.com solaris 8 is the full unix operating system??

strange question i know but ive just downloaded the whole thing 2.5G and counldnt think as to why they would let people download it for free.Smilie

it should be the whole thing... and yeah they just give it away..

They don't make money on regular home consumers... They make them on selling high-end hardware kit to people looking for a tough server. They also have Linux/BSD/ etc... to deal with on that end. So if they can get more people to like it better than the comptetition, they'll sell you lots of software, support, and most importantly, hardware. They free version isn't to be used on systems with more than 8 processors...
