a script to count characters
Gurus,

This might be pretty simple.

1. I need a script that will help me count the number of characters of a filename and generate an output as follows

Filename count
ALSAP-016A_R20030413_LDN_DST_MLL_GRN_BS.DLIS 44
ALSAP-016A_R20030413_LDN_DST_MLL_GRN_BS6.DLIS 45
ALSAP-016A_R20030413_LDN_DST_MLL_BS.DLIS 40

SCript to read some characters
ls *DLIS|nawk '{ print $0" "length($0) }'
# 3  
Old 03-22-2006
do a `man wc', and ye shall be enlightened ;-)
