Question dummy here with a login problem....
I have inherited an Ultra 60 machine, but do not have the user name or password. When the machine boots up, the Welcome screen comes up...

I tried root, and no password... no luck

Is there a way to reset the username and password starting from the command line?

any help would be greatly appreciated! i want to get into this machine and see what i have here!!

Typically, you will boot to single user mode (interrupt when it askes if you want to do so) and change the password. It will stop at a command line prompt and you can type.

#passwd root


OR while in single-user mode, you can simply remove the passwd from the /etc/passwd file and boot to multi-user mode "init 3 for most folks" or init 4 for some...

user login problem & Files listing problem.

1) when user login to the server the session got colosed. How will resolve? 2) While firing the command ls -l we are not able to see the any files in the director. but over all view the file system using the command df -g it is showing 91% used. what will be the problem?
