nawk 'NR<2{next}{c=($NF-$(NF-1))}(!($1 in   A))||(c>m[$1]&&($1 in A)){m[$1]=c;A[$1]=$0 FS m[$1]}END{for(i   in A) !(i in B) && print A[i] && B[i]}' myFile

# 10

when I enter:

 nawk '!A[$1]++' test.txt

I get:

A[: Event not found.

When I type the entire code suggested:
I end up with a syntax error.

For the other/'event' issue... make sure you quote the awk code appropriately.
