trouble with snmpwalk script

I am using a line of code that I borrowed from someone else's script, in a script to monitor changes in my local network. It works but it takes too long to pick up the changes.
Code:
 snmpwalk -v 2c -c PASSWORD -Oq 10.0.1.1 RFC1213-MIB::atPhysAddress

The snmp server is my apple router. If I monitor the network from Airport utility (Apple's software, GUI) The changes are shown almost immediately. (devices connecting and disconnecting)
I thought it may have to do with the DHCP leases. I have that set to renew every 12 hrs, but it doesn't take nearly that long. (sometimes 30 secs , sometimes 1 hr)
other than that the script is doing everything that I want. Thank You for any suggestions or comments Smilie

As in you get old results, or it takes forever to complete?

I get old results from the command. for example if my phone disconnects from my networks wifi, it will show up almost immediately in the "Airport Utility" If I execute the snmpwalk command the disconnection will not be shown immediately. eventually, after running the command several times, the updated results will be displayed.

There must be some other communication method that airport utility's using. As a test, can airport still detect these things when you disable snmp in it?

thanks for helping Corona688
I think your right
I'm sure Airport Utility can detect the changes with snmp disabled. I used the Airport Utility long before I found out about snmp(to monitor the network), and snmp was disabled by default. I only recently enabled snmp on the router for the purpose of this script.

Does anyone know if a delay (in reporting events) like this is typical for other routers?

I'm not sure the router even knows -- it may be waiting for it to time out before it decides it's really gone. There may a message from the disconnecting device before it leaves which airport is picking up on so it realizes sooner.
