If you use the ifconfig command to set it to use dhcp that won't survive rebooting.

I just did a quick check of my Solaris Network Admin class textbook and it says you should create a file /etc/dhcp.XXX where XXX is your network interface. That way when it boots it knows to make that interface use dhcp. So in your case it would be:

touch /etc/dhcp.eri0

Do that as root then reboot. Then use ifconfig -a to see if your interface is using dhcp.

I would like to thank everone who responded. I really appreciate the help. After making the last set of changes, I am now able to open a telnet session on my XP machine connecting to the Solaris machine.
