How to download and extract files on Linux machine from internet

Hi,

I am working on Linux 64 bit machine. I am trying to install one software on Linux machine. I downloaded that software from internet on my windows machine. Now in order to install software on Linux machine, I will need all downloaded files on Linux machine. How can I do that?

So my question is how to get downloaded file on Linux machine so that I can install software there?

What distro? Are you connected to the internet on your linux machine? You could share a folder on your Windows machine, put the software there, and then in Linux go to: connect to server/windows share/<IP of windows machine>, if you are using Ubuntu.

With an utterly empty machine, these days one usually installs from a CD. You can buy one or get a friend to burn you one. It does not have to be the latest if you have broadband internet for it to update itself.

I think you can even boot some machines from a usb flash drive, in which case you can install from that. DSL (D* Small Linux) even runs off a usb flash drive 50MB file. DSL information

Do you care which distribution you install?

Can't access the internet from a Sol 7 machine
