Bug Rdesktop failed to open keymap common#015

Hi everybody...

I have installed qrdesktop(is a tool similar to rdesktop used to access remote desktop) on Ubuntu 8.10.

when i am accessing the remote desktop some of the keyboard keys are not working on remote desktop like up arrow ,down arrow, left, right, delete etc.

the output of tail -f /var/log/messages shows that
rdesktop failed to open keymap common#015

i have checked this keymap file common is there in the qrdesktop keymap folder.

Thanks

Permission? Chmod it to 644 and the holding directory to 755 perhaps?

Can you explain this in bit more detail...

I'll need to look at the system I have installed rdesktop onto and let you know the filenames to look for if rdesktop has not told you...

Running a truss of rdesktop (in Solaris) shows that it is looking for a keymaps directory in one of the following (bearing in mind my locale is set to c):
${HOME}/.rdesktop/keymaps/c
/usr/local/share/rdesktop/keymaps/c
${HOME}/.rdesktop/keymaps/en-us
${HOME}/.rdesktop/keymaps/common
${HOME}/.rdesktop/keymaps/modifiers

in my case the last three are the files that rdesktop finds because I have put them there because rdesktop is not installed locally but in a different directory from where it is expecting to be.

So in your case if rdesktop is installed in the standard location then I suggest ensuring you can cd into /usr/local/share/rdesktop/keymaps and that any files in there are chmodded to 644.

If that directory does not exist then you could run:
Code:
$ truss -a -e -f -vall -t open -o /tmp/rdesktop.truss rdesktop <servername>

I'm sure there are parameters to truss that are not necessary but we'll see what we want!
Then run:
Code:
$ grep keymap /tmp/rdesktop.truss

and you will see where rdesktop is looking for keymaps files.

Thanks Buudy..

Its working now...Keymaps files and all were already there...
But it was not able to open it even permissions were 644..
Then I used dos2unix command over all the keymap formats like en-us and all...
So finally its working now..Smilie
Thanks
