how to save the output of command in tcl/expect

hi, everyone:

I just wonder how to save the output of command, I mean everything, save as a string into a variable.

another question is I try to ls the details of a directory, but it works in the shell, not in the script.

for example
Code:
code: ls -ltr *se100* | grep ^- | tail -1 | awk ' { print $9 }'
    or spawn ls ...........................

it works in the shell, not in the script.
error message: can't read "9", no such variable.
What I want is to save the name of my file, 9 is the location of the name in the pipeline.

Thanks, guys

for storing the output of a command into a variable you can simply use this following two types:
Code:
variable=`command`

or
variable=$(command)

======================================

I ran the same script but did not get any error regarding the "9".

Could you please show the content of that script you are using so we can know where the issue is actually.

Regards,
Sanjay
