Using encrypt to AES256 Level on Solaris10

Hello,

Hopefully not doing something too unconventional here, and someone might be able to assist me. I simply want to know what the parameters are that I use with the encrypt command in Solaris10. The system has the SUNWcry module added, so should be able to encrypt up to AES 256 strength. I'm presuming that I need to use a command something like:-

encrypt -a algorithmname -i inputfile - o outputfile

What I don't know is the algorithm name - when I list them, I get:-

bash-3.00$ encrypt -l
Algorithm Keysize: Min Max (bits)
------------------------------------------
aes 128 128
arcfour 8 128
des 64 64
3des 192 192

I'm not sure if that means that the SUNWcry module isn't giving me the additional key length that I require - it is running:-

(root_servername)@/ # pkginfo | grep -i SUNWcry
system SUNWcry Crypt Utilities

Does anyone have any ideas? If you need any more information, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Steve Burch

encrypt is only going to do aes128. That is very strong encryption. If you really need aes256 then you must abandon encrypt. We use gpg (Gnu Privacy Guard) for aes256.

gpg -c --cipher-algo aes256 secret.txt

gpg is available for Solaris on sunfreeware.com.
