Starting a process whose ppid should be 1

How can I start a process with ppid as 1 instead of my current shell pid?

I am assuming you don't want to replace init, but want it owned by init? Or why would you want to create a zombie-like process that can only be killed by rebooting the system? At least I cannot see any benefit in this - and I have doubts that it would be possible anyway?

Parent Process ID number one.

Processes with PPID=1 can come from many sources:

Processes started by "init" and listed in "inittab" for that runstate.
Processes started by "cron".
Processes started during system boot by "rc".

This is not an exhaustive list.

For example: Killing the normal parent of a process tree can sometimes leave sub-processes with PPID=1 .

To see processes in order of PPID:

Code:
ps -ef | sort -n +2 | more
