trying to devide existing physical volume

hi guys, i`m trying to take 40GB of my sda5 (/home mounted) to create new volume group(lvc)

here`s the df output:

/dev/sda2 7,9G 3,3G 4,3G 44% /
udevfs 5,0M 60K 5,0M 2% /dev
shmfs 379M 0 379M 0% /dev/shm
tmpfs 379M 4,0K 379M 1% /tmp
/dev/sda5 285G 501M 270G 1% /home

/sbin/fdisk /dev/sda -l :

/dev/sda1 * 1 192 1542208+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda2 193 1236 8385930 83 Linux
/dev/sda4 1237 38913 302640502+ 5 extended
/dev/sda5 1237 38913 302640471 83 Linux

Backup home by doing something like
cd /
tar -cf home.tar /home
umount /home

Delete the /home partition. Create it smaller, that way you have disk space left over to create a (8e) LVM partition. You can use the vgcreate commands to create your volume group once you have created the LVM partition.
