Date Manipulation with files

Hi,

I have a timestamp stored in a variable start_time=17-JUL-2009 03:45,
I need to search a file for this time stamp line by line (where each line has a time stamp in the file) if the time stamp is greater than the start_time variable value need to grep that line for a string and if the string is present need to move the line to another file. Smilie

I require a function to implement this, thanks in advance.

regards
Happyrain

Something similar was asked a while ago:
https://www.unix.com/shell-programmin...statement.html
There could be some snippets in there to reuse.

Hope this helps

You will need a function to convert dates in the format
DD-MMM-YYYY HH:MM to YYYYMMDDHHMM. Then they are suitable for comparison as numbers.

There are basic issues:

1) Do your your single-digit days and/or months have a leading zero?

2) Separating the date string into fields and padding single digit numbers if needed.
(Depends on the above).

3) Converting MMM (e.g. JUL) to MM (07). Can be done with a "case" statement.
