tar and untar commands

I have a script to ftp, archive and delete files. I used tar command to archive files from a list and then all files were removed from name1/name2/name2/.

Code:

find /name1/name2/name2/ -name "*.txt" -print > filelist.log
while read line
do
  if [ ! -e "$tarfile" ]; then
     tar cvf $tarfile $line
  else
     tar rvf $tarfile $line
  fi
done < filelist.log

I did, but cannot find the files. All files were in folder name1/name2/name3/name4/name5/name6/ and the tar file in the folder: name1/name2/name3/name4/

Quote:
[user@name/ name1/name2/name3/name4/]$ tar xvf bfotarfile.tar
name1/name2/name3/name4/name5/name6/file-intid_1.txt
name1/name2/name3/name4/name5/name6/file-intid_3.txt
name1/name2/name3/name4/name5/name6/ file-intid_2.txt

[user@name/name1/name2/name3/name4/name5/name6/]$ dir
total 0

Use "tar tvf" to list all the files on the archive. This will tell you the exact path name of all files on the archive. I don't see how your filenames do not have a leading solidis character because the archive was created with absolute pathnames.
Have you tried "ls -la" rather than "dir" ?
