Overview
Our Mathematics Alevel course combines Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics for a flexible, multidisciplinary approach to the subject. It consists of eight modules: four in Pure Mathematics and two each in Mechanics and Statistics.
In Pure Mathematics, you’ll learn basic and advanced concepts in algebra, trigonometry, polynomials, exponential functions, logarithms and be provided a good foundation of vector geometry and parametric equations.
The Statistics modules cover, among other aspects, statistical data, probability and binomial distribution, along with Poisson distributions, hypothesis testing and confidence limits, while modules in Mechanics will introduce you to the mathematics of the physical world, including kinematics and forces, motions of a particle in two and three dimensions, Hooke’s Law and uniform circular motion.
The modules are designed to complement one another, building a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge while demonstrating the practical applications of mathematics in a variety of fields.

Examining board and exams
The Mathematics A level course has been developed to prepare you for the Edexcel Mathematics Alevel qualification.
The full Alevel will be examined for the first time in Summer 2019.
Please note that the AS course may be separately examined and marks from the AS exam are no longer carried forward to the final A level grade. However, it is useful for students to have examination practice, and to assess the progress of their learning and ability.

Prerequisites
You are expected to have a knowledge of mathematics up to a good GCSE standard.
This means a grade B or above in 2017 and earlier or Grade 5 and above in 2018 or later. In either case, it is expected that the student took the higher tier.
In particular, you should have a strong basic understanding of:
