diff of two direcotries?

I need a command that I can run to diff two directories.

I only want it to show the directories that are different - not the files beneath the directories.

In other words, I have 2 directories: dir1 and dir2.

dir1 has the following subdirectories: sub1, sub2, sub3, sub4.
dir2 has the following subdirectories: sub1, subp, sub3, subq

This command would display:
sub2 only in /dir1/sub2
subp only in /dir2/subp
sub4 only in /dir1/sub4

Any ideas?

I dont think diff has this functionality ... the only way i can see it work is if the named directories have nothing in them except for your named subdirs...

If there are any other files (yes dirs are files too), they will be reported...

one way to do it is use an alias that I have created... lsfg

In HPUX, lsfg='lsf |grep /' THEN > to a filename... THEN run a diff on the 2 files... that contain the subdir names...

you can make one for your OS that only lists the dirs...

cd dir1
lsfg > file1
cd ../dir2
lsfg > file2
diff file1 file2
