Data DNS on Solaris 2.6

I just setup Solaris 2.6 on my Sparc 10 and I cannot figure out how to configure my DNS settings. I am using @home as my ISP and they assigned me two DNS servers to use and a domain. I created a "resolv.conf" file in my etc folder and added the following exactly as shown:

domain plstn.sfba.home.com
nameserver 24.1.45.34

I am able to ping out to the internet but cannot browse websites by hostname. Is there anything else that I should be looking at?

Another thing (off the DNS subject) I added my default gaeway by using the following command:

route add default 10.10.10.1

but when I reboot my machine it gets deleted and I have to manually add it again. Is there a way to make this a permanent default route.

Have you checked that the /etc/nsswitch.conf has the following entry

hosts: files dns

It may be that your machine hasn't got the dns entry so is trying to resolve addresses using only the /etc/hosts file.

As for the default gateway you could add the route add command to one of the system startup scripts, maybe rc.local (in linux anyway).

you want to add the nameservers in resolv.conf they are searched in the order in which they are in the file.

Code:
(hostname):/ cat /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 24.1.45.34
nameserver x.x.x.x
domain plstn.sfba.home.com

Code:
(hostname):/ # cat /etc/defaultrouter
10.10.10.1

The nnswitch file needed the DNS entry and I can now use DNS.

Thanks for all your help!

For the default route - put the IP address of the router into
/etc/defaultrouter.
