SITE Command

I am ftp'ing the file from windows to unix host.
i need to change permission of the file that i hv ftp'd
i guess we can use SITE UMASK ftp command for the same. but was not able to execute it.
Can anyone tell me exact syntax and example of how do i use it and change the premission of the ftp'd file.

ftp> chmod <newmask> filename

where new mask is th file protection mask, like 755.
