Question register parameter type

Hello,

I like to register parameters of my programm to the shell (for tab usage).
How to do that?

Depends on your shell; what is it? I think it's possible in zsh and maybe some ksh, but not all shells...

Here on this Ubuntu server I am currently using /bin/bash.

I wonder how the shell knows on which parameter position to enable tab usage (also bash knows)..

Usually it doesn't, it just fills in filenames or command names.

You can find it in man bash under 'Programmable Completion', but looks very complex.
