I still recommend that you ksh run this as the error is that a ksh string function is not known to the Bourne shell sh Using

Code:

nextval=`expr $prevval + 1`

..... will spawn extra processes each loop. If you have lots of input (more than just this test) it will be considerably slower and consume more system resources too.


Can you revert to the original and execute the following:-

abc@abc$ ksh -x demo.ksh 2 6 7 8 11 12 18 25 26 27

What do you get now?
