smart command history ?

Hi All.

I am learning how to use command history in UNIX, and I got a basic question.

Suppose I am in a "verylongpath" directory and I type "gedit thisfile".
At a later stage, the command is accessible from the hystory, but it is
useless if I have moved to another directory. The same applies of course
to commands such "cd myfolder", etc.

Is there a way to instruct shell history to keep track of full paths in the commands list, so those commands can effectively be reused anytime ?

Do I need to add full paths myself to command ? If so, does anyone know a keystroke or ESC/tab combination to do it quickly at command line ?

Thanks for your help!

There is no way to "to instruct shell history to keep track of full paths in the commands list". This applies to any unix Shell.

Ps. It always helps to know what Operating System and version you have and what Shell you prefer.
