As long as you do not require a GUI and only need shell access via telnet or SSH putty will do the job just fine. I use putty almost every single day without problems and am quite happy with putty.
I also use putty for SSH tunneling and it works quite nicely.
PuTTY is a free implementation of Telnet and SSH for Win32 platforms, along with an xterm terminal emulator. It is written and maintained primarily by Simon Tatham.
