Well, modprobe did not let me unload the module; it was showing the following message:

# modprobe -r cciss
FATAL: Module cciss is in use.

Fortunately this is not a critical system so I just rebooted the box and now my custom symlink is there. Smilie

It would be nice however to know how to do it on the fly.

If it says it was in use I suspect it meant it; you might have had things mounted, etc, preventing it from unloading that module.
