Do you need to know the installation date, or the OS version release date, as in 3/05, 11/06, 8/07, etc? There's no command that will tell you for example "the OS was installed on Tuesday Sept 4th 2005" unless someone puts some sort of "stamp" somewhere after building the server. You may be able to deduct it by checking creation times on some files and commands like last or uptime, but not a sure science.

As for the OS version release date, just cat /etc/release .

Out of curiosity, why do you need to know the installation date?

Have a look at the /var/sadm/system/logs/ directory for detailed and timestamped installation logs.

Hi,

should you search into the /var/sadm/system/logs directory. and the Solairs has a two files which are used in the installation, "begin.log and finish.log" and the date of them are the instalation date.

root@XXXXX[logs]# ls -lh
total 324
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 Nov 15 2006 begin.log -> begin.log_2006_11_15
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 90 Nov 15 2006 begin.log_2006_11_15
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Nov 15 2006 finish.log -> finish.log_2006_11_15
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Nov 15 2006 finish.log_2006_11_15
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 188 Nov 15 2006 install_launch.log_2006_11_15_1220
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 101K Nov 15 2006 install_log
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 45K Feb 12 2008 sysidtool.log
