ILOM and Solaris installation
Hi

I received a Sun server and want to know whether the ILOM will allow me to install Solaris on the server.

I was able to access the ILOM (ssh and serial and web). But will it allow me to install Solaris on it?

in short terms... yes. what kind of server is it?

do a `start /SYS' to power the server on, and `start /SP/console' to see the console and start your installation! Smilie

it is a x4200

The server is already on. So should I run start /SYS?

I can see the console using https (from the browser). Do I need to do start /SP/console to start the installation??

like every other system you have to boot from cdrom/dvd or network to start the installation. if the system is pre-installed and the installation fit your needs, you can use the pre-installed os as well... i prefer a clean and new installation...

In both situations, what added-values ilom has in the installation process?

Should I connect a screen and a keyboard and install from scratch?

you can install from remote and administrate the machine from remote... so there is no need for a monitor an keyboard to install the system from scratch!

Hi, I am doing a fresh installation of Solaris 10 1/13 on an IBM x3550 M3 server (x86). When I begin the installation it shows me failed to mount zfs, I was advised by oracle to ignore that. Sun X4540 Ilom - Solaris 10

ILOM Alert messages to Solaris OS - X4250 (Intel based NO ALOM)

Hi, I have a problem when running some tests. I unplug one power cable from the server. No message is sent to/var/adm/messages On the ILOM GUI, it shows power state deasserted. Anyone knows how to forward this message to the OS, perhaps using the alert management settings? IPMI,snmp?... (1 Reply)
