Hi all,

I have 1 problem in my solaris 8 server. The problem is in every nite that will run a cron job to download file from external ftb server. This crob job starter running find, but after running for 4 minute, that ftp services is hang that, until we need kill this process.

My question here is how can i troubleshooting this problem, or any patch i need install?

did you run ps -ef to see where did it hang?
find OR ftp command?

if it is ftp, did it always hang at the same file?
if it always hang at the same file, view the partial file, did it always hang at the same line and what is that line?

if it doesn't hang at the same line NOR same file, you might have a network problem.

If network problem, try to
1) ftp from another host (in a different subnet) to same dest host + do a traceroute
2) ftp from same source host to another host (in different subnet) + do a traceroute

I have did ps -ef show that ftp hang that after few minute. i try ftp to other server as u suggest sometime can, sometime can not. I use diffrence server ftp to same location that is working find, all file can be download.

Network side i have ask network engineer checking that connection and related hardware, all return in good condition.

I dun think it is the server's problem if it is intermittent.

Can you try to do a traceroute from the 2 different source server to the same server?

My guess is there is something wrong with your network, not your server.
