Hi Admins,

When i tried to boot the system from ALOM console i am getting below error and not sure what caused this error.

Btw the machine is running on Solaris SPARC 10.

Can you shed some light on this?

Why do you have a USB device attached to this server?

That is the RAID device that we used long time ago. Do we have issues because of that device?

Looks like it can't start the init process (which is the first process usually started).

Where are you expecting Solaris to boot from? An internal disk?

I suggest that you boot from cd and fsck your harddisk root filesystem.

Also, after that, check for the existance of /sbin/init on that filesystem.

I am expecting it to from the root disk. If i boot from the CD will the data be lost?

Can i get the command for booting from cd? Btw root partition is mirrored, before doing fsck do i need to detach the mirrors?

Data will not be lost by booting from cd into single user:

Code:

boot cdrom -s

That will get you to a # prompt where you can:

Code:
fsck /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0

assuming c0t0d0s0 is your root disk. Otherwise, use appropriate device.

You can then mount the harddisk root filesystem to take a look at it:

Code:
mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /a

Code:

cd /a

Code:

ls -l

'cd' into any directories you want to look at.

Make sure that you shutdown in an orderly manner after that:

Code:
init 0

No, you don't need to detach the mirror to do a fsck.

Thanks for the reply.

After mounting into /a do we need to umount and then shutdown?

Code:
mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /a
