SSH on Solari 8

Hi,

I am installing SSH on Solaris 8....it is trying to install in /usr/local .where our
/usr/local is residning on a remote system and is is read only..

Is there any way to install it in a different directory other than /usr/local.?

Thanks in advance.

As this is a Solaris related thread, not AIX, I have moved it to the appropriate forum.

Thanks

That won't work here because it will try to install in /usr/local, your best bet would be to download and compile ssh and the required libs.

It has been a long time since I played with packages, but I think this will work:

Code:
> pkgtrans /var/pkg/openssl-0.9.7e-sol8-sparc-local /tmp SMCossl
Transferring <SMCossl> package instance
> sum /tmp/SMCossl/pkginfo
15313 1 /tmp/SMCossl/pkginfo
> /bin/ed /tmp/SMCossl/pkginfo
183
/BASEDIR
BASEDIR=/usr/local/ssl
s/\/usr\/local\/ssl/\/usr\/bin/p
BASEDIR=/usr/bin

q
> sum /tmp/SMCossl/pkginfo
14718 1 /tmp/SMCossl/pkginfo
> /bin/ed /tmp/SMCossl/pkgmap

/15313
1 i pkginfo 183 15313 1099040396
s/15313/14718/p
1 i pkginfo 183 14718 1099040396

> mv /var/pkg/openssl-0.9.7e-sol8-sparc-local /var/pkg/openssl-0.9.7e-sol8-sparc-local.orig
> pkgtrans /tmp /var/pkg/openssl-0.9.7e-sol8-sparc-local.modified SMCossl
Transferring <SMCossl> package instance

But for some reason I feel like I am missing something

I used ed to make it easier to follow. Feel free to use a more friendly editor.

my favorit is pkg-get : blastwave
with that tool, similar to apt-get from debian, you don't need to take care about your dependences and it installs everything under /opt/csw/, perhabs a good idea for you

I'd second that, a simple and clean solution for this problem, and iot works very well, I don't know what I was thinking not to have suggested this insetead of the compiling route.
