... and 99.9% of security updates (if properly done) can be applied by restarting the affected service instead of the whole system.

we have had quite a few restarts of sparc server. and it always seems more responsive with fresh start. perhaps there are some memory leaks in Solaris or Oracle too.

Dude,There is no limit for uptime of a machine..As I have been working on a SOlaris machine for 4 years now ..I have never heard of a maximum uptime for a solaris server..However We normally provide a reboot to the node every 8-10 months to avoid any application issues..Its a completely planned reboot and it is ensured that the outage is minimum (as all of the servers i work on are live) by giving it during late night (2am to 3 am).
