Wow! /usr/sbin/eeprom is a shell script. I didn't know that.

You seem to be missing /usr/platform/SUNW,Ultra-4 I don't know why. I have it on my SunOS 5.8 box.

What hardware are you running on?

That SUNW,Ultra-4 is the hardware platform. If you do a uname -a it gives the platform of your box in the last field.

How you would be missing it is a suprise to me. I'm wondering if your box is actually an Ultra-4 box or not. If so, I would expect lots of other stuff to be broke too if your /usr/platform/SUNW,Ultra-4 directory is missing.

One other thought I have, some of the newer machines use a LOM prompt (stands for "lights out manager") as the system console instead of the older way where you have a ok> prompt. I'm wondering if these newer boxes don't use the eeprom command the way older ones did . . . .

I just did a "ls -lR" while in /usr/platform/SUNW,Ultra-4. Almost everything seems to be symlinked back /usr/platform/sun4u anyway. So running /usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/eeprom might work. Or it might fail to some way...

The only real file not symlinked back is libprtdiag_psr.so.1 so I would guess that prtdiag will fail for sure.

Maybe he installed a version of the OS that doesn't support Ultra-4? But I would expect the install procedure to catch that.
