Operating Systems Solaris Names dropping out of /etc/aliases

No pattern that we can discern. We get service tickets that Jane Doe hasn't recieved an email from an outside contact. When we check the logs we find that incoming mail for her is flagged as "Unknown User". When we check the aliases file, text file, she's not in there. We add her, run newaliases then she starts getting her mail.

I've not checked for unprintable characters. Never thought of that. Is there an "easy" way to check for them? Outside of running and 'od -c' on the file I have no clue.

Recommend that you copy the aliases file to a unique name before editing with "vi" and then use "diff" afterwards to check that the only changes you see are what you expect.

To see any funny characters in the file:
