I really fail to see the problem. From the original post I understood that you had to move DATA. In this case several techniques descrided above should work. I've moved entire databases between storageboxes using "tar". Just make sure you do this in single user mode, otherwise you risk being hindered by running applications or by other users that modify the data you're moving. And yes, this means system downtime for the users. I hope this isn't a problem?

So i need to get the downtime and use cp <> command n move data in the single user mode..I have one more doubt do i need to have the same mount point name to copy data from the old filesystem to the new one..

After the copy is done, mounting the new filesystem to the original mount point is the less disruptive solution.
