Qlogic HBA + Veritas - Part 2
Hi all,
New to the world of SAN, so forgive me for any ambigious terminology.
I have a sun 6800 chassis with two domains, both domains connected to a San ancor sanbox ( 2 x Storeedge T3 / Mcdata switch ). Current Qlogic HBA's are 1Gb glc adaptors, version of qlc drivers 11.8.0,REV=2000.04.01.16.21 By the looks of it, these cards are well old.
current t3 disks use veritas vxvm to group the disks, volumes, using the multipathing function of veritas for IO path redundancy.
I need to upgrade all this, as a new company wide SAN is being created. So, I need to connect this server to a new SAN fabric, mount some new disks, then copy the old disks ( from the t3) to the new disks ( new san fabric)
I was going to leaving the current setup, i.e. old qlogic HBAs + veritas configuration, then install a new SG-XPCI2FC-QF4 into each domain( eacj domain would then have two HBAs), connect this to the new SAN.
So, in reality the server will have one connection to the older T3's SAN, and a new connection, using the new Qlogc HBA, to the new SAN.
So, my question, how will these older HBAs and newer HBA work together ? Will I have to install the new qlc drivers to the new HBA card, over writing the older drivers ? But how will this effect the older HBA's and disks presented from it ?? Will I have to noted the current configuration ? WWNN etc etc, in the event the new drivers over write the old configuration ?
Does this idea sound possible ? As I need to transfer the data from the older T3, over to the new SAN fabric ?
Im more used to emulex cards, lputil / lpfc.conf, notice that qlogic cards dont use a lputil command. Correct ? How do I get the wwnn ? do I wait for the first boot / messages ? How can I check for the current details of the older qlc cards already in the server ?
Sorry for the stupid sounding questions, Im new to SAN and trying to pick things up quickly.
Thanks
