How to assign files to variable
Hi All,

I have many files in a directory. I want to assign these files to variable. For example:

In home directory I have files called a.dat, b.dat, c.dat, e.dat and so on....
I want to assign all these files to varibale. How can I do that?

Tools something like this?

> cfiles=$(ls o52098c*.sdf)
> echo $cfiles

With zsh, ksh93 and bash you can use an array with the following syntax:

a.dat  b.dat  c.dat  e.dat
% files=(*)
% printf "%s\n" "${files[@]}"
a.dat
b.dat
c.dat
e.dat
% printf "%s\n" "${files[*]}"
a.dat b.dat c.dat e.dat
% printf "%s\n" "${files[1]}"
b.dat
% printf "%s\n" "${files[3]}"
e.dat

Or use the positional parameters:

% printf "%s\n" "$@"
a.dat
b.dat
c.dat
e.dat
% printf "%s\n" "$*"
a.dat b.dat c.dat e.dat
% printf "%s\n" "$1"
a.dat
% printf "%s\n" "$3"
c.dat
