Shell Script Help
Hi, i wish to write a shell script to execute another shell script for every 10 seconds.

I tried using this method

#!/bin/bash

while true
do
/home/raymond/fypj/mylocation.sh
sleep 10
done

but it is unable to automatically run the shell script every 10 seconds

Can anybody help and tell me where is the error?

Hi! Your example script is working fine here. How do you run your main script? Is it from cron or you invoke it directly from the terminal?

that should work. What do you mean "is unable". Are you getting errors?

hmmm, i am not using cron to run it, just letting it run from terminal.

main purpose is to using this shell script execute the 'mylocation.sh' every 10 seconds so that it will be able to refresh where is my laptop location on the website.

but my website does not reflect any value at all. so i am not sure whether does this work.

Something is wrong probably with your mylocation.sh script. To check whether your main script is executing well, replace the line that execues your mylocation.sh with something like echo command.

add set -x to the top of both scripts to see what is happening

Hi,

You can run the script you want every five mins by setting up a cron

Execute the following commands..

1>crontab -e
2> 5 * * * * (script which you want to execute(full path))
3>press (shift + Smilie on key board then type "wq" and press enter key
4>install-crontab -f
5>crontab -l (to view the cron installed)

this cron will exexcute your script every five mins..
