Hi Anbu,

I have the below error when i use this in a csh shell. Do you know what error prompt this ?

arr[$1]++: Event not found

Leave a space between ! and arr

I am not sure whether you are looking for a solution in awk, but why can't you try using the simple commands..

cut -f1 -d" " filename | uniq
# 12

I didn;t know unix exist such command.

But can you explain what is the meaning of this syntaxcut -f1 -d" " ?
# 13

cut -f1 -d" " ---> will extract the first field (f1)in a file seperated by the delimitter " " (or, a space).
