how to find out if i have single string between tags

Hello all
im doing allot of text manipulation work , and im kind of new to regexp ( learning hard)
say i have this "<# fooo #>" , how can i check with regexp that i have only one string between the <# #> but can have spaces and not "<# foo oo #>" or "<# foo blah #>"

Something to start whith:

thanks for the reply but when i do :
<# foo #>
the regexp dont match

<#foo#>

for different spaces/word boundaries:

grep "^<#\s*\<\S*\>\s*#>$"
