Content of file in single line

Hi I want to create output file which is having entries from source file in single line

a.txt

Code:
<output type="event">
                <moduleId>abc</moduleId>
                <errorCode>963016</errorCode>
                <text>Test1</text>
            </output>
            <output type="event">
                <moduleId>abc</moduleId>
                <errorCode>963033</errorCode>
                <text>Test2</text>
            </output>

Output file b.txt

Code:
<output type="event">:<moduleId>abc</moduleId>:<errorCode>963016</errorCode>:<text>Test1</text>:</output>

<output type="event">:<moduleId>qbc</moduleId>:<errorCode>963033</errorCode>:<text>Test2</text>:</output>

Pls help on this
I tried below command but it didnt work

Note: the use of printf without specifying the format field, may give unpredictable results, depending on input.
