What would happen if I didn't use "./" before writing a script?

what is the need to use "./" before writing a script ?

am not clear with that !!!

generally,
you do use that to run the script from current directory
as
./<scriptname>

I pretty much know what it means I just don't know what would happen if I don't add it to a command.

you have the risk of running some other script of the same name.

say for example the script name is run.ksh,
you have it in your current directory as /users/some/data/run.ksh
and in another directory with the same name as /users/some/run.ksh
and the directory /users/some is in your $PATH variable.

If you intend to run the actual run.ksh in /users/some/data/run.ksh
from /users/some/data/ run it as ./run.ksh

else running as run.ksh would execute run.ksh available in /users/some/ directory and not the desired one!!!
