How to sFTP within a script?

I'm trying to run an sFTP command within my bash shell script but not sure of the correct code.

I'm looking to use:

Code:
  sftp -b /dev/fd/0 remotehost <<EOF
  cd pub
  ascii
  put filename.txt
  bye
  EOF

However when adding this in my editor (Notepad++) it seems to have an issue with the double chevrons << indicating it will not function correctly at runtime. Is the above 100% a correct way of using a public key sftp command within a bash script?

Please post errors and messages so they can be analysed. Without such, we are limited to generic remarks and guesswork, such as:
Make sure your editor does produce correct *nix files (i.e. no <CR> line terminators).
And, the plain << TOKEN doesn't accept an indented TOKEN - flush it left or use <<-.

It's telling you that the ending EOF absolutely must not be indented. It is indented, and will be taken as the string 'EOF' instead of an ending terminator. It must be at the beginning of the line.

If you're going to tell it -b /dev/stdin, you might as well just leave off -b.

sftp has no 'ascii' command, being sftp is not actually ftp, just a modern imitation. If the text file differs from remote standards, you will have to translate it yourself.

Otherwise, you're close.
