Hi,

Can you try like this:
Code:
awk '/ssh/ { print "'\'' input line '\''" }' file

outputs:
Code:
'input line'

Red colour one is double quotes. Rest of them are single quotes.

Also, note that you can club grep, awk in single command.
(IGNORECASE can be used , if you have gnu awk & if you are looking for case insensitive match ) .
One simple example:
Code:
awk '/Indirect/ && /Database name/ { "do something" } '

I don't quite understand your first awk with Indirect, but... modify to your liking:
Code:
su - db2inst1 -c 'db2 list db directory | awk -v q="'" '/Indirect/ && tolower($0) ~ "database name"{ print "su - db2inst1 -c " q "db2 activate db " $NF q} '

Or, use octal constants:
Code:
awk '{ print "su - db2inst1 -c \047db2 activate db " $NF "\047"}'
