Using Expect and scp. Not moving directories

An Expect script using scp to copy directories is not moving the subdirectories as wanted. The directory structure is:

computerA (user 'test')
/home/test/parentDir/subdir1
/home/test/parentDir/subdir2

and I want them copied to

computerB (user 'archive')
/home/archive/subdir1
/home/archive/subdir2

The script (simplified) is run on computerA.

#!/usr/bin/expect -f
spawn rcp -r /home/test/parentDir/* archive@computerb/home/archive
expect ".*sword.*"
exp_send "password\n"
interact

This script results in error message:
/home/test/parentdir/*: No such file or directory

Running the rcp command from the command line and supplying the password when prompted results in the subdirectories copied to where I want them. That is,

$rcp -r /home/test/parentDir/* archive@computerb/home/archive

Works.

I've also tried a few variations of quoting the rcp command which haven't worked:

spawn rcp -r /home/test/parentDir archive@computerb/home/archive

results in parentDir copied as well, as in
/home/archive/parentDir/subdir1
/home/archive/parentDir/subdir2

So, what is expect doing? How should I quote the rcp command?

-Thanks

expect is not a shell.

I would suggest using scp instead of rcp, which would allow you to use passwordless authentication in a shell script.
