I agree wholeheartedly with this suggestion when using current shells. Unfortunately, suresh3566 hasn't told us what OS and shell is being used. If a pure Bourne shell (such as /bin/sh on Solaris systems) is being used, the preferred $(command) form of command substitution is not available.
