By default, Solaris 10 uses an older Solaris-specific version of ksh

You can do that in several ways: ksh maintains an internal variable "${.sh.version}" and you can use "^V" in vi-editing mode (there is probably an equivalent in emacs-mode but i don't know it). From my system (nondescript GNU/Linux):

Code:
# print - "${.sh.version}"
Version JM 93t+ 2010-03-05
# set - o vi # hit ESC - CTRL-V after that
# Version JM 93t+ 2010-03-05

I hope this helps.

By the way, nested traps per your example, appear to work correctly with ksh93 on Linux platforms.
