Leave it \r\n if it works Smilie

It does the same thing when I try T="\r"

It mutes the amplifier!, so no difference there...

I want to build on this working script, to make a script that switches between channels if my TV is on, or my pc is on. I will try some things out. Is it ok if I get stuck again that I ask you for some more advice?

You made my day allready so thank you very very much! learned allot today!

Interesting... The reply seems to only contain a carriage return, not a newline. (Which is why the last ' gets sent the back of the line) Perhaps you should try T="\r"
By definition, command substitution:
Code:
REPLY=$(amp "?p")

strips any trailing <newline> characters. For example:
Code:
printf "%s" $(printf "abc\r\n\n")

produces the output:
Code:
0000000   141 142 143 015
           a   b   c  \r

Hi! Sorry to bring up this old post, But I have the same Pioneer amplifier as thread starter, only mine is two years newer (VSX-923 instead of VSX-921). My goal is to adjust volume and the On/off switch with hotkeys from my mac. I've succeeded getting hot keys for volume up and down, but I have some trouble with the power. I've been using code from this thread, but still haven't been able to work it out.

The problem is that this line:
Code:
printf "%s\r\n" "?p" | nc pioneer.local 8102 -q 2

doesn't return the current power state (PWR0 / PWR1), like it did with the thread starter. It doesn't return anything at all! I can send commands with this type of command, but I cant receive any information. I want to key on my mac to either turn the receiver on or off, based on the power state, PWR0 / PWR1. I can receive this info if I use telnet instead of netcat, but I haven't been able to store that text string.

Could you show a telnet trace of what you want?

Yes, If I run the command:
Code:
{ echo '?P'; sleep 2; } | telnet pioneer.local

The output looks like this:
Code:
Hanss-MacBook:Scripts hansi$ (echo "?P"; sleep 2; ) | telnet pioneer.local
Trying 192.168.0.8...
Connected to pioneer.local.
Escape character is '^]'.
BridgeCo AG Telnet server
PWR0
Connection closed by foreign host.

I want to store the current power state PWR0/PWR1 as a string/variable, and then run a query to power the amplifier on if PWR1 = true, and power it off if PWR0 = true (I don't know why they've called PWR1 standby mode, but that downs't matter really).

I want to do something like this, and REPLY should contain either PWR1 or PWR0:
Code:
REPLY=${ echo '?P'; sleep 2; } | telnet pioneer.local

echo "got reply = $REPLY"

Do you got any clue?
