Perl SSH:Expect stdout

I am having a problem figuring out how to turn stdout on in the middle of my ssh session. If I turn it on or off in the initial session it works, but if I try to turn it on in the middle, I can't seem to find the correct statement.
Code:
my $ssh = Net::SSH::Expect->new (
            host => "192.168.1.100",
            user => 'root',
            timeout => 10,
            raw_pty => 1,
            log_stdout => 0,
            );
       $ssh->run_ssh() or die "SSH process couldn't start: $!";
       $ssh->waitfor('no\)\s*');
       $ssh->send("yes");
       $ssh->waitfor('Password:\s*');
       $ssh->send("$pass");
$ssh->log_sdtout(1);
       $ssh->waitfor('\%\s*');
       $ssh->send("telnet $HOST");
       $ssh->waitfor(':\s*');
       $ssh->send("admin");
       $ssh->waitfor('assword: ');
       $ssh->send('1234');
       $ssh->waitfor('#\s*');
       $ssh->send("term len 0");
       $ssh->waitfor('#\s*');
       $ssh->send("term width 200");
       $ssh->waitfor('#\s*');

That is one of the options that is passed to the Expect object inside the connect method before it spawns the ssh process:
Net::SSH::Expect - search.cpan.org
