Zip and ftp script?

so I am keeping the folder structure the same on both ftp and home pc but all folders on the ftp will be zipped

Well, if your 'tree' is just leaved 2 levels down, that zips them all. For a zip per dir, your zip section is:

$ cd /home/fred
for d in */
do
 ( cd $d
   zip ../${d%/}.zip *
   )
done
